The Prose Boo-wl III (Ghostly Pun edition.)

Twas a dark and stormy night when the denizens of literature congregated at Pete’s Candy Store to bear witness to the rapid recitation of macabre musings, and all the spirits such speaking invokes.

…Actually, it was rather mild, and pretty bright throughout, but, you know…

Our host set the scene early, and our readers took us all to some frightful places.  P.J. Krifko put us in the car with Wingo at the wheel, and Lindsey Boyle left us in the woods, swallowing tadpoles.  Dan Levinson asked us to make right with Beardo the Weirdo, and Johanna Buch had us looking to a certain future holiday with a myriad of pies.

Our panel, including stalwart Zach Norton, and special Guest Andrew Lloyd-Jones considered each piece and provided startling feedback, while co-founder Christopher Green made Halloween puns and creepy noises.  Yeah, it was a thing.

In the end it was Lindsey and Johanna in the lightning round.  No monsters were brought to life, but the audience was struck with the power of their combined pith.  So much so that no winner could be decided.  The prize for the evening, a very full bucket of candy, was chopped and both Lindsey and Johanna walked away with quite the bundle.

It was a great show, thanks to our amazing readers, and everyone that attended.  You guys make the room a great place to perform, and we want to thank you so much for coming down and making this show as awesome as it is.

Officially, the best audience ever.

We’ll see you guys in November, for a new cornucopia of prosaic delights.  (Yep, I’m starting in on the Thanksgiving jokes now.)  See you soon!

Prose Bowl III: Autumnal Combat!

Something slightly chillier this way comes.  The leaves are changing but the Prose Bowl goes on!!!

Our third show goes up in one week, so get those stories ready everyone!  Remember, if you didn’t get the chance to go up last time, you get an extra entry in the hat!  We want to hear from everyone!

Grab your friends and bring them down.  And if they occasionally scribble, make sure they put some ink down on paper before they come.  It’s a great place to try something out.  Those five minutes are yours everyone!

We shall be waiting in a week, bescarved, and hopefully, sipping some strong cider.  See you then!

The Very Second Prose Bowl

Our second Prose Bowl kept the tradition going. Pete’s was chock full of people and we had even more people in the hat this time around than the first. It was great to see so many writers ready to go, and we can’t wait to see all of you that didn’t get to go up this time around.

Our Readers and our host.

Our host got us off with a twist on six classic poems in a row, “in the room where writers come and go, reading in staccato.”  And then we went right into things with tales of cake and dubious dating websites.

After the break we got a good view into what makes a pair of wings, and then a story from the beach that served as a great close to summer.

Our readers, being awesome.

Thanks again to everyone who read.  It was another fantastic show!  Our panel had an extremely difficult choice in picking out the finalists for the lightning round.  So trying in fact, that they headed straight to the bar afterwards.

Whiskey just out of shot.

After a flashing exchange of pithy narrative, it was Rachel Pelz who took home the coveted ‘huggable candy bar,’ and became the second Prose Bowl champion.

See? Totally huggable!

It was an awesome show, and we’re proud to say, The Prose Bowl has been picked up through April of 2016!!  So hone your prose, ladies and gents.  Our next show is on October 20th.  We can’t wait to see you!  Happy scribbling to you all!
